Early Years Foundation Stage

There are seven areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).  We provide a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment in which children in Nursery and Reception can learn through play and focused teaching in all these areas:

  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Art and Design

We develop the characteristics of effective learning:

Playing and exploring – engagement

Finding out and exploring

Playing with what they know

Being willing to ‘have a go’

Active learning – motivation

Being involved and concentrating

Keeping trying

Enjoying and achieving what they set out to do

Creating and thinking critically – thinking

Having their own ideas

Making links

Choosing ways to do things

We aim for children to be safe, happy, confident, enthusiastic, resilient, tolerant, independent and capable.
