Science at Wilberforce Primary School presents the children with many engaging and inspiring learning opportunities, whether in the classroom, outside in the school grounds or on trips into the city. Children study Science each week and during their time with us, will have an opportunity to take part in Forest School, Science Week and a number of trips, including to London Zoo and the Science Museum. Currently, children in Years 2 and 3 attend Forest School at Paddington Recreation Ground every half term to explore the wildlife and woodland environment through the different seasons. This child-led approach to learning enables the children to take the lead in what they want to learn. Children have identified different species of trees and birds and have even made their own bird feeders. We also welcome visitors into school including the RSPB who, with the children, investigate the different habitats and mini-beasts we have in our school grounds. As a result we now have a number of Bug Hotels created and built by the children on the school site. The children love nothing more than getting 'hands on' with science and in our weekly science lessons, children are given the opportunity to carry out investigations, to experiment and to explore science for themselves. We watch butterflies emerge from chrysalis', chicks hatch from eggs. We actively promote STEM activities and aim to inspire our Wilberforce scientists of the future.
