/ Categories: General
Last night Wilberforce Primary Head Teacher Claire Macfie was congratulated by Prime Minister the Rt Hon Theresa May for her fantastic work in driving improvement at the Queen’s Park primary school.
Claire was invited to attend a special reception at 10 Downing Street to celebrate the outstanding work of teachers. The event was attended by 100 teachers from across the country.
Wilberforce Primary was recently removed from Special Measures and raised two categories. Judging the school as ‘Good’ with some ‘outstanding’ features, inspectors credited the significant improvements to Claire Macfie who joined the school in 2016. Rating leadership and management as ‘Outstanding’, inspectors described Ms Macfie as an ‘inspirational headteacher [who] nurtures loyalty, respect and high expectations among staff and pupils’. They went on to say that ‘she has been a force for good both within the school and the local community’.
On attending the reception, Claire Macfie said:
“It was an honour and privilege to attend the reception at Number 10 and to meet the Prime Minister. There were some very talented and inspirational teachers at the reception and it was humbling to attend alongside them.
“The invitation to Number 10 recognised how far Wilberforce has come as a school in the past few years. It is testament to our fantastic staff and incredible pupils that we have achieved so much. I wish that we all could have been invited to the reception but I made sure to fill all the pupils and staff in on every last detail when I returned to school!”
