Governing Body

On behalf of the Local Governing Body of Wilberforce Primary, I would like to thank you for taking an interest in our school by visiting our website.

The Governors are a group of external representatives, staff and parents who have responsibility for the strategic oversight and governance of the school. Together we hold the Principal and Senior Leaders to account for the school’s performance and we strive to ensure that the school continues its exciting journey towards excellence.

Our primary concern is always that our pupils receive the very best education which can be provided. We want the children who come to Wilberforce to love coming to school to learn and we want them to receive an education which will allow them to go on to lead happy and successful lives after they have left us. We like to keep in close contact with the school so that we are able to fulfill our role of challenging and supporting the school to realise the best in everyone.

The Governors meet formally twice a term and we also make regular visits at other times during term in order to focus on particular aspects of the way in which the school operates in relation to the School development Plan.

The current governors are as follows:

  • Rob Carpenter - Chair
  • Edward Capewell - Vice Chair
  • Casimir Iwaszkiewicz - Local Authority Governor
  • Conrad Roeber - Community Governor
  • Rachel Russell - Community Governor
  • Hakima Moktefi - Parent Governor
  • David Casey - Staff Governor

If you would like to know more about the governing body then please get in touch with us through the school office. If you would like to read the minutes of our meetings then you can also do so by asking the school office to supply you with a copy.

With very best wishes

Edward Capewell
Chair of Governors

Wilberforce Primary School is a part of United Learning whose Trustees hold the ultimate responsibility for the governance of each United Learning school.

The Department for Education’s governance handbook identifies the essentials of effective governance as follows:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

United Learning’s Trustees delegate certain key roles and responsibilities to the school’s Local Governing Body (LGB) and these are set out clearly in Appendix 4 to the United Learning LGB Members Handbook, which can be seen on the United Learning website.
